Stand Up Paddling History

SUP began in the 1960s in Hawaii, when surfing instructors used the technique to position themselves for taking photographs. More recently, professional surfers used the technique for training and have become “wildly popular”. Supporters cite the ease of learning as a key to its popularity, with beginners becoming comfortable in as little as an hour of training. SUP boarding highly popular with both men and women worldwide.

What are the advantages of Stand Up Paddling? What makes it so fun?

Stand Up Paddling is a “new” water sport that is fast growing where invented by Hawaiians for photo taking. Over the world, it is now becoming a water sport, which focus on the core fitness with distance flat-water paddle as well as stand up paddle surfing.

In SUP, one can paddle on the open ocean, in harbors, on lakes, rivers or any large body of water. One of the advantages of Stand Up Paddle Boarding is the angle of visibility. Because of the standing height over the water, one can see both deeper into the water and further across the surface of the water, allowing better visualization of features others lower above the water may not be able to see, whether it is the marine life in the harbors, lakes and coves or the incoming swells of the ocean marching on the horizon.

Stand up paddle is a phrase that is quickly gaining in popularity. Over the past few years the sport of stand up paddle boarding has grown significantly and now people are throwing yoga into the mix.

 

SUP Beginner Program (by HKSUPBA)

The 2 hours SUP BEGINNER PROGRAM cover all basic SUP knowledge that you need to know:

  • Understand SUP equipment
  • Learn important safety rules
  • Learn your basic paddle techniques on land
  • Practice your strokes on water

This program will demonstrate participants to learn the basic skills include: How to paddle forward and backward in prone position, in kneeling position and in stand up position; how to maneuver; and most importantly, the safety guidelines such as how to fall properly. Your lesson will be run in calm flat water

  • Time: 10:00-12:00 / 13:00-15:00 (Duration 2 hours)

SUP Intermediate Program (by HKSUPBA)

 

SUP Intermediate Program – Bronze Award

  • Time: 2 sets 2 hours lesson (4hrs total)
  • Coach & Student Ratio at 1:8 (Min. of 4pax)
  • Entry Requirement: Holder of SUP Beginner Level
  • Exam: Complete 2KM sea tour training in limited duration of under 45mins

  • Program Details:
    This program is ideal for those who have passed our Beginner program.  Our instructor will guide you paddling in the open water, experience paddling in difficult circumstance, such as windy condition, choppy wave etc.

*Participants could received the SUP Intermediate Certificate after they finish the whole SUP Gold-Silver-Bronze Training Program

SUP Intermediate Program – Sliver Award

  • Time: 4 sets 2 hours lesson (8hrs total)
  • Coach & Student Ratio at 1:8 (Min. of 4pax)
  • Entry Requirement: Holder of SUP Bronze Level
  • Exam: Complete 4KM sea tour training in limited duration of under 75mins

SUP Intermediate Program – Gold Award

SUP Fitness Program

SUP is a superior core workout on both flat water and amongst the waves. It is an ideal sport for cross-training as it brings together legs, back, feet, arms, neck and stomach muscles in a graceful display of core strength and balance.

Stand up paddle boarding provides great experience as a sport, which lends itself well to those who want both a cardio, balance and strength workout. It does not only encompass the core muscle action, but also utilizes a whole body functional approach to building core muscle balance and support.

This monthly program aims to group sup enthusiast to train and stay fit together, our trainers will help you set training program that will fit into your physical ability, help you with monthly goals and challenges. There are no worries of holding other people back, our trainers will give different goals and program base on your ability.

SUP Downwind Program

The SUP Downwind Program is built for experienced paddlers who like having fun gliding with wind and waves, our trainers will teach you the basic skills you need to stay safe and have fun while you downwind. It is a thrilling experience where nature is helping you to glide and slice through the water, with wind and current backing you up.

  • Duration: 2-3 hours
  • Venue: Sai Kung Marine Area
  • Entry Requirement: Holder of SUP Beginner Level

Paddling on a SUP provides a great cardio and core body workout but yoga adds another dimension to the sport. SUP Yoga is basically as it sounds, yoga postures practiced on a stand up paddleboard. SUP board makes a perfect yoga mat, its wide, unstable and challenging yet suitable for all levels. Beginners included!

Paddling is a calm waterways to promote a sense of peace. With Blue Sky’s unique SUP Yoga class, we bring your yoga practice outside, connected to nature as you experience offers many benefits, from breath work, increased flexibility, balance, meditation and strength to a deeper connection with the natural beauty around us on a stand up paddling board. It is a natural fit to combine paddling with yoga, where it fosters a higher awareness of all muscles involved during paddling, developing strength, poise and a more centered approach to the whole paddling experience.

Classes will include stretching on different shores, an introduction to moving and turning your paddle board, an active yoga class, and some downtime on your own to enjoy the paddle board on the water.

SUP Racing Program

This program aims to let you train with our professional trainers to build up skills & fitness needed for racing, this is a monthly program, our trainer will help you tailor made training program that will fit in to you.

We will escape the manic pace of downtown Hong Kong with a relaxed tour of Sai Kung Islands.

This program provides professional coaching for age 10 or above and all levels, with an emphasis on safe, high quality tuition in small groups.

Our coach will bring you to the open sea and discover the beautiful scenery during the practice.

  • Time: 1000-1600

  • For 8 students class: simple lunch & speedboat

SUP ECO Tour (Half Day)

This program provides professional coaching for age 10 or above and all levels, with an emphasis on safe, high quality tuition in small groups.

Our coach will bring you to the open sea and discover the beautiful scenery during the practice.

  • Time: 1000-1300 / 1300-1600

SUP Discovery Course (includes Certificate)

During the touring part, we could escape the manic pace of downtown Hong Kong with a relaxed tour of Sai Kung Islands.

SUP Night Safari ​

Program Details:


Exploring the mystery part of Sai Kung marine area. Got a chance of capturing the underwater lives at night time.
